Concurso Internacional de Canto Alfredo Kraus announces 2021 winners

Ukrainian soprano Olga Syniakova won the 8th edition of the Concurso Internacional de Canto Alfredo Kraus.

The victory is the last competition in which the soprano participated after three prizes at the Belcanto Vincenzo Bellini competition in France, the second prize at the Albacete competition and the first prize at the Concurso de Canto Compostela Lírica in Spain. She was also a finalist in Toulouse and for the Gianni Bergamo Classical Music Prize.

Besides Syniakova, Portuguese soprano Regina Freire won the second prize while the third prize went to soprano Susana Vieira.

The final gala of VIII CICAK was given by 10 singers chosen from among 124 candidates from 28 countries. The finalists performed alongside the Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by maestro Óliver Díaz. Besides the four winners, the other finalists were Germán Alcántara (baritone / Argentina), James Kim (tenor / South Korea), John Lim (bass / South Korea), Yulia Merkudinova (soprano / Ukraine), Cecília Rodrigues (soprano / Portugal) and Ihor Voievodin (bass-baritone / Ukraine).

This year the competition saw a jury made up of Rosa Kraus Ley, Francisco, Araiza, Daniel Bianco, Elisabete Matos, Alessandro Galoppini, Celestino Varela, Luca Ioseffini and Ulises Jaen.
