Opera North has announced a 10-week training program for female conductors.
There will be two dedicated workshops led by Opera North Music Director Garry Walker, which will include the opportunity to conduct the Company’s orchestra. In addition, participants will receive discussions and one-on-one lessons with personalities such as guest principal chef Antony Hermus; Sian Edwards, conductor at the Royal Academy of Music and a regular on the Opera North podium; Opera North Chief Music Officer David Cowan; conductor Oliver Rundell; and Martin Pickard and Annette Saunders from the musical staff of the company.
Trainees will also have access to preparations for the company’s upcoming productions and hands-on work with the company’s education and outreach services. Finally, the âsuccessful candidateâ will assume the role of deputy conductor for the performances of the âBrundibÃ¡râ youth opera project in January 2022.
