Opera Orlando launches summer concert series focused on women in theater

ORLANDO, Florida. – Opera Orlando is set to kick off its summer concert series with a new program focused on women in theatre.

According to the theatre, (DIS)REPUTABLE: The good, bad and questionable women of the scene is a summer program “that runs the gamut of formidable women with varying degrees of respectability and righteousness: from nuns and nobility to prostitutes and witches with selections from Carmen at The little Mermaid.”

Opera Orlando said the performance will be performed by soprano singer Emily Pulley and pianist Ammon Perry Bratt.

Additionally, the theater announced that a special preview presentation of the season will be given by the directors of the theater.

“This season is truly a homecoming for us, as we are finally able to produce our operas on the main stage at Steinmetz Hall,” said artistic director Grant Preisser. “And we decided to continue that ‘home’ theme through our concert series by again inviting artists who are now part of our opera family.”

According to Opera Orlando, Pulley has about 30 years of experience with opera companies and orchestras nationally and globally. The theater told News 6 Pulley that he has performed in nearly 200 productions, such as Faust, Die Walküre and The Merry Widow.

Additionally, Opera Orlando noted that Bratt is an award-winning pianist, touring internationally and performing at venues such as Carnegie Hall, Palais Montcalm and Assembly Hall.

Performances of the concert series are scheduled for 2 p.m. on August 14, 21, and 28 at the University Club of Winter Park.

Admission includes entertainers after each concert and light hors d’oeuvres with wine. Tickets are $45 for each individual concert or $108 for the entire series.
