The Stanislaus County Library has announced the NASA Reading Challenge, which will take place December 1-31. This challenge centers on the winter launch of NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope, the most advanced infrared space telescope ever launched. This telescope will allow us to look deeper into time and space than ever before.
The NASA Reading Challenge, open to all ages, is an opportunity to challenge yourself to read and learn more about space exploration. This challenge offers several reading and learning activities, where participants can earn badges. Participants will track their progress using the Beanstack app. However, participants can track their progress however they want, and staff will help them enter their data into the Beanstack app.

Also this month, take part in the âStory Into Song Virtual Trivia Night: Bless Me, Ultima and Dulcineaâ.
The Stanislaus County Library will be offering a special themed virtual quiz night on Friday, December 17 at 7 p.m. in partnership with Opera Modesto, to celebrate its Story Into Song Literacy initiative.
Opera Modesto 2022 Story Into Song Literacy Initiative performances will feature one-act operas inspired by famous literary works – Dulcinea, based on Don Quixote de la Mancha by Miguel Cervantes, and Bless Me, Ultima, based on Rudolfo’s novel Anaya. The virtual quiz event, hosted by Opera Modesto Managing Director Roy Stevens, will feature questions about Don Quixote and Bless Me, Ultima. The answers are multiple choice and true or false, so participants don’t have to be experts in these assignments to have fun. First, second and third place winners will receive two tickets to see the upcoming performance of Opera Modesto by Bless Me, Ultima and Dulcinea, which takes place on January 8 and 9 at 2 p.m. at the State Theater in Modesto.
Participants can have fun individually or as a team. Each player or team will need two devices, one for audio and question viewing using Zoom, and one for the Kahoot! app, where participants answer questions.
Zoom and Kahoot! must be downloaded before the event. Prior registration is compulsory. Visit https://bit.ly/LibraryVirtualTrivia to register. Once registered, attendees will receive a link to the Zoom meeting.
