Salt Marsh Opera presents “Carmen” at “The Kate” October 8-10

Opera song

OLD SAYBROOK – Salt Marsh Opera was founded in 2010 by Simon Holt, who served first as Music Director and then Artistic Director in 2015. He is also Music Director of the First Congregational Church of Old Lyme and Music Director of Cappella Cantorum in Deep. River, Connecticut.

Salt Marsh Opera’s fall 2021 production is fast approaching and tickets are limited.

Carmen is one of the most famous operas in the world but for Georges Bizet, who composed the opera, Carmen is his only opera success.

Bizet died suddenly after the 33rd performance, unaware that the work would be internationally acclaimed within the next 10 years.

There are many reasons why Carmen gained popularity. One of them is the fascinating music of Bizet, which has been widely acclaimed for its brilliance of melody, harmony, texture and orchestration, and for the skill with which Bizet has musically portrayed emotions and suffering of its characters.

Following a story of love and jealousy, Carmen is a performance not to be missed.

Carmen will be performed October 1-3 at the United Theater in Westerly, RI and October 8-10 at the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center.
