Saratoga Community Briefs for the week of October 22 – The Mercury News

Opera theater

An eye-catching and scary sight

The West Valley Light Opera returns to the Saratoga Civic Theater with a show that is expected to attract fans of both the musical theater and the Halloween season.

While “The Addams Family” doesn’t open until November 6, Charles Addams’ spooky and wacky comic book clan-based musical is in the holiday spirit. The comedy revolves around

Wednesday Addams as she tries to introduce her fiance – who loves puppies, sunrises and Disney World – to her unconventional family.

The 2010 Broadway production “The Addams Family” won the Tony Award for Best Music by Andrew Lippa. It starred Nathan Lane as Gomez and Brooke Shields as Morticia. The 19 members of WVLO are all local talents and will be accompanied by a professional orchestra.

“The Addams Family” runs from November 6 to December 12. 4 at the Saratoga Civic Theater, 13777 Fruitvale Ave. Tickets are $ 25 to $ 49 on wvlo.org.

Student tickets are available for $ 25 with a valid high school, university or staff ID at the box office 30 minutes before the curtain; no advance reservations are available.

Halloween artistic party

The Montalvo Arts Center is hosting an outdoor Halloween Art Party on the garden terrace. This family-friendly event for all ages is scheduled for October 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 15400 Montalvo Road.

Customers can create seasonal decor such as ghosts, skeletons and signs. A pop-up photo booth will be set up for people to capture each other in costume. Although the costumes do not need to include a mask, protective masks are required.

Art supplies will be provided and local art vendors will sell Halloween-themed items.

The suggested admission donation is $ 5. RSVP at https://tockify.com/montalvoarts.
